Bank of America Tree-lighting Event in Bryant Park

2015 brought us the opportunity to work with the Bank of America on several occasions, but our absolute favorite event of theirs this year was the tree-lighting at Celsius in Bryant Park.

The event was mainly for kids, so there were lots of games and activities scattered through all three floors, as well as a professional ice skating show. It was jam-packed with kids and their parents getting ready for the holidays, so as you can imagine, the atmosphere was abuzz with excitement and rosy cheeks. We couldn’t wait to get started!

Decor for the event featured a combination of classic “winter white” blossoms with silver accents and holiday greens. The bars were a temporary home to a magnificent winter wonderland of snow branches, white amaryllis, white birch, and oversized silver and gold ornaments.

The event featured a total of 28 floral arrangements with an icy and sophisticated theme. The Vice President of Events at Bank of America, who is a close friend of ours, did a wonderful job choosing gorgeous navy blue furniture rentals for the event, which went perfectly with our winter white arrangements. She also had a lighting specialist project oversized snowflakes on the walls behind the bars. It was festive and fantastically neutral, while keeping its holiday spirit.

This event was also the first in which Barbara, whom we introduced a few posts ago, worked with the Julia Testa team as a full-time employee rather than a freelancer working at our side. We loved having her! All in all, the tree-lighting event was fabulous, festive, and fun, and we can’t wait to work with Bank of America again throughout 2016.

NYSE Selects Julia Testa for the Holidays

Julia Testa and company hit the floor of the New York Stock Exchange recently, much to the delight of its President.

The NYSE hired us to create a winter wonderland for a dinner event which would feature the president of the NYSE, as well as some very elite, influential members. We wanted to capture the sophisticated nature of the event, but we also wanted to play with the wintry theme, so we started with a 20′ table runner to line the table, as well as a hugely oversized magnolia arrangement for the end of the room to underlie the floral feel. The room bloomed and blossomed all throughout the event.

They hired us this time because of the credibility we’ve built up with them over the last few months. NYSE hired us a little while ago for a small, low-key hotel event, where we made succulent arrangements for them. We assumed they sampled lots of city florists and we’d never hear from them again, but then, a few months later, they hired us for a mid-sized event in the fall! This time, they wanted 14 traditional low centerpieces, which is one of our favorite things to put together for clients. It’s a Julia Testa staple, and we did it in our traditional tight style. We used really expressive and unique flowers: calla lilies, garden roses, pomegranates, and even gourds and mini-pumpkins, putting everything in custom-designed gold containers to match the stately feel of the building. They were obviously impressed with our work, because they hired us to create the winter wonderland dinner!

The halls would have been decked long before they were, except that we were also booked to do the tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center (!) and we were expecting to be out of 30 Rock at 3 p.m…which didn’t happen, due to the packed streets and crazy celebrations. We were racing to get to the Stock Exchange building. We know the importance of having enough time so that we aren’t rushed when we’re trying to create. We ended up getting there with time to spare, despite the trials and tribulations along the way, and we knocked it out of the park. Time may not have been on our side at first, but even with the time difficulties, the Events Manager still loved what we did.

“Despite the less than ideal security clearance and set up time, you guys still killed it last night,” he said. “People who see that room every single day said it had never looked so good. Guests were commenting on he arrangements and the President of the NYSE took one home with him after dinner. It really set the tone for the entire evening,” he told us afterwards.

We can’t wait to hit the stock exchange floor again! Until next time, NYSE.

AllianceBernstein Gives the Gift of Flowers

[soliloquy id=”4619″]

One of the best parts about the holiday season is that it’s a perfect opportunity to help people – and have fun doing it! This week, Julia Testa brought our expertise to a floral design seminar to teach financial executives to make floral magic. At the end of the seminar, the finished arrangements were sent to the Ronald McDonald House to bring Christmas to children who will spend it in the hospital.

What could be better than getting to spend part of a workday learning to make beautiful floral arrangements? Only one thing: a heroic cause, like brightening up children’s hospital rooms.

On Wednesday, a group of around 40 financial executives at AllianceBernstein Asset Management Company in New York City devoted their afternoon to corporate gifting when they learned to create floral arrangements in a seminar taught by our very own design team. Daniele Menache, Managing Director and Global Head of Events and Sponsorships and the origins of the event’s inception, couldn’t be prouder of the philanthropic afternoon, which she called “fantastic.”

Not only did the AllianceBernstein executives get to contribute in a hands-on way to a worthy cause, they also got to build teamwork. The group worked with a number of different flowers, like roses, orchids, hypericum berries, hydrangea, dianthus, and aspidistra leaves. They were taught to treat, cut, and arrange them in keeping with the holiday spirit.

These arrangements were hand-delivered to the Ronald McDonald House, a charity organisation that provides family-oriented housing for sick children and their families. The flowers made by the AllianceBernstein executives helped to brighten up hospital rooms just in time for the holidays.
